21st November 2006

Yesterday (Monday) was Mexican Independence day, one of the many many holidays down here.  We don't really know where the day went as it doesn't seem like we got much done at all yesterday!  Janet scheduled the massage (which she got today, said it was fantastic) we won the other night and we picked up the bottle of tequila we won also (Batallon brand).  We're planning on using the tequila for the renaming ceremony.  I think champaign is traditional for that, but we figure in Mexico we should use tequila to placate Neptune.

I had to go to the doctor that morning as my eye was acting up again.  He seemed to think I have a slight infection in my eye and prescribed some antibiotic drops.  So I am back down to one contact again (right eye can see), but the drops seem to be working and hopefully I'll be back at binocular vision by the end of the week.

John came by today and delivered the wood for connecting the two beds!  I'll put some photos up, check at the end of this post for a link.  We talked to the cushion lady today (Full Sail Canvas, I think her name is Carmelia?) and she should be coming by tomorrow.  Hopefully since it is a pretty small job she can get it done quickly so we won't have to keep sleeping apart!!!!!

Last night was Tom and Dan's last night here in Paradise (they are both heading home for the holidays and plan to be back in January) so the four of us took the bus into town (PV).  On the bus Dan chatted up this very nice attractive young local woman who ended up being our tour guide for the evening.  She took us to this great restaurant (2for1 margaritas are pretty common around here!) and we ate very well.  Gabrielle, Tom, and I had camarones por la diablo (or something like that, I don't have the language down very well!) which translates to shrimp of the devil.  They were spicy!!  Plus they feel a little more like the devil today than last night. . . Dan had garlic shrimp (con ajo or something) and Janet had some sort of mole enchiladas which she seemed to really enjoy.  Then Tom really wanted to get some gifts for his family (you can see them on their webpage www.sailwithpersistence.com ) and we headed toward the Malecon in PV.  Unfortunately, by the time we got there all the shops he wanted to get stuff in was closed.  Gabrielle thought she knew of some places that would still be open, but after walking a good 20minutes or more, they were found closed also.  Funny thing is that we were only a few blocks from the hotel we stayed at when we visited in September.  We ended up in this loud touristy bar where Janet rode a burro, and we all did shots from this crazy whistle lady.  Take a look at the photos!

Tom and Dan flew out today and we hope to meet them again in the future - hopefully our paths will cross down south of here in January some time.  It's hard to even imagine where we'll be in January and what stories we'll have to tell then. . .

It was a pretty late night and therefore today we haven't been getting much done yet.  We're hoping to be able to take Thursday off.  We signed up for Thanksgiving dinner that the marina here is organizing and hopefully we'll get to meet some more cool folks.

Photos from yesterday. . .
